Summary
President Herbert Hoover attempted to rectify the Great Depression by ensuring there were continually jobs available. By doing so, it was expected that through the cycle of people working, being paid, and spending their paychecks on consumer goods the economy would eventually stabilize. Unfortunately despite Hoover’s attempts, this did not execute as expected leading people to begin to resent him. American’s began naming shanty towns, which were essentially slums the homeless would build “Hooverville’s” to symbolize their distaste for the president.
